The Crabbies™

Imaginary Fun. Real Results.TM

The Crabbies are imaginary characters that help children understand why they act the way they do. The CrabbieMasters Program teaches them how to be in charge of their feelings, attitudes, and behaviors. As our motto, “Imaginary Fun, Real Results” suggests, program is designed to be fun so that kids will get involved and it also sets children up for lifelong self-mastery. Children relate to The Crabbies on a fun and playful level. At the same time, parents will appreciate knowing that the skills and values children develop by using this program will make a very important difference on a day-to-day basis in your home, on the playground, in the classroom, and beyond.

All of The Crabbies have a few things in common. They want to put your kids in a bad mood, leave you feeling frustrated, and throw the whole day off course. CrabbieMasters are able to recognize their feelings, feel confident in their ability to manage their moods, and get the day back on track even when problems arise.

In this section of the website, you will learn each Crabbie’s specific role and you will learn skills for outsmarting each Crabbie.  Click the images to learn more about each Crabbie.  Children can meet and learn how to beat The Crabbies in the For-Kids section of our website.

We have a specific order in which each Crabbie is introduced. This is because there are some Crabbies you need to master before you’ll be likely to have success with any of the others. The first 4 Crabbies (Too-Tired, Hungry, Junk-Food, and Achy) address physical needs for emotional stability. Not having enough sleep, not eating well, eating too much junk food, and getting physically sick increase a child’s vulnerability to mood swings. If your child’s physical needs are not taken care of, the other skills that you want them to develop are going to be even more of a challenge. The next 3 Crabbies (Can’t-Do, Get-Along, and Hurry-Up) deal with a child’s self-confidence and interactions with others. The final Crabbie is “The King” and he is basically the leader of all of The Crabbies, a Crabbie that your kids will LOVE to beat!

We find it works best to introduce kids to the concept that all 8 Crabbies exist and to highlight the King Crabbie in the first conversation. This gets them excited about learning how to become a CrabbieMaster. The next step is to teach them how to Beat The Crabbies, one Crabbie at a time. See Our Program for fully detailed steps on helping your child become a CrabbieMaster.

** Note that while some of the in’s and out’s of The Crabbies do take a degree of effort to discern and put into practice, many of the tips and tricks throughout CrabbieMasters are very common sense. The key point is for us to share enough information for you to be able to translate all of this into creative and effective tools, words and actions that are practical for you and your children.
